Beschreibung:
This issue is about bodies, women's bodies in particular, as a personal, private territory that should offer the opportunity for expressions of autonomy, equality, dignity and freedom of decision-making and action. Nonetheless, the patriarchy historically has used biological differences between women and men to deny full equality of the sexes, women's physical characteristics, above all their capacity to reproduce the human species, were the primary cause of discrimination against them. This issue of the Womens Health Collection hopes to encourage women to take ownership of their rights, to move forward from being a "body for others" for to being a "body for themselves." A body over which they are able to make informed, responsible and autonomous decisions. A body that they may use to become mothers if they want to have children. A body that they may use to enjoy their sexuality with men or women or by themselves. A body through which they may experience joy, pleasure and peace, free from sexist violence of any sort. This publication addresses sexual and reproductive rights and focuses on three key issues: contraception, abortion and the right to live free from violence. Finally there's a series of selected texts by renowned Latin American feminists on the body and womens rights. Content: Sexual and reproductive health guidelines; the right to abortion; sexual rights; violence against women and girls; orgasm; sexuality and power; lesbians in Latin America; women and aging etc.
