| This book portrays the womens life on the Borderlands, as it is depicted in the literary works "Borderlands" and "The House on Mango Street", and targets issues like gender and female oppression in a patriarchal society on a more universal level. The ostracism Chicanas experience in their position between the divergent cultural, social and ethnic realities they live daily is of main concern in the discussion of the literary works by Gloria Anzaldúa and Sandra Cisneros. More than that, the paper reveals the authors defiance of any traditional ways of categorizing concepts like gender, class and ethnicity, since they do not comply with the plurality of the Chicanas experience. The first two chapters deal with Chicano history and also mention Mexican-American feminism in order to provide a deeper insight into the primary reasons of the Chicanas seclusion. In the end, a glance into the future as it is envisioned by Gloria Anzaldúa and Sandra Cisneros by their critical reinterpretation and an intertwining of binary oppositions is made. Contents: 1.
