Beschreibung:
Dorothea Schlegel's "Florentin" (1801) is analysed with a focus on the question of how far the concept of gender is discussed in the text. Although Schlegel's text is unfinished, this interpretation assumes that the wandering of the seeking hero does find a kind of end in his experience of conversion at the end of the tale. The analytical secret construction of the text unravels itself for a moment in the spiritual fusion of Florentin with the Countess Clementine, the portrait of Saint Caecilia and the female-connotated music. In this way the text shifts the emphasis on the system of gender from the passionate hero to an idea of femininity.
