The article outlines threee moves towards the expression of a feminine point of view about the female body: deconstructing those received representations which express a masculine point of view, avoiding the creation of new norms which women should adhere to, and putting a feminine point of view into practice in the communication and the discussion among women. These moves are exemplified by a discussion of discourse about childbirth drawing on the analysis of medical advice books for pregnant women and of interviews with women about their won experiences. A link is thus established between female bodily experiences, the feminine point of view and the feminine subject, which allows for a non-essentialist account of the role of female bodily experiences in the construction of the feminine subject and point of view | |
