| This reading of Ebner-Eschenbach's autobiography explores how the text constructs a theoretical framework for evaluating problems of literary productions by female authors in the late nineteenth century and especially for Ebner's own poetic works. special attention is paid to Ebner's peculiar framing of suffering as determining the locus feminine subjectivity vis-à-vis a subject-centered ("masculine" notion of history.
