| The prevalence of unwanted sexual contacts is examined in a sample of German adolescents. 560 male and female repondents aged between 17 to 20 years who grew up either in West Germany or in the former German Democratic Republic completed a German version of the "Sexual Experiences Survey". This instrument assessed the prevalence of sexually aggressive acts experienced by women and committed by men in different types of victim-perpetrator relationships. Sexual aggression was found to be a widespread problem in the relationships of adolescents in Germany. Twenty-five per cent of the female respondents reported unwanted sexual contacts that meet the criteria of criminal offences. The prevalence of criminal acts of sexual aggression is much lower for the male respondents, but prevalence rates for other forms of sexual coercion are substantial. No differences were found on both the victim and the perpetrator sides as a function of socialization (East vs. West Germany). | |
