The history of the Network of Women in Archaeology, from its first beginnings in 1988 until the present day, shows how an autonomous organization of women in archaeology arose and became established. It developed out of the general public interest in the history of women, as well as the need for (feminist) women and gender studies in archaeology, for critical research, and an improvement in the working conditions of female archaeologists. In the more than lO years since the foundation of the Network (1991-2003), the structure of the organization has been consolidated, its work professionalized, and an impact made both on the public and in scientific circles. It is now a question of how this achievement can be maintained and further developed in the future | |
