| Barocque poetry has also used the technique of autopsy, in order to represent bodies. Petrarcian poetry, for example, aims at presenting the beauty of a lover by lining up single parts of body (which are described in detail through precise metaphorical imagery) to capture its essential idee (»Wesenbild« nach Harsdörffer) by composing those elements, that were deduced as constitutive by means of poetic vivisection. In spite of their range of artistic variation, they ultimately reaffirm traditional 17th century gender roles, exposed through the perspective of the courting male. | |
