| The archives of the personnel department constitute one of the main collections of the Ottoman Bank Archive. They mainly include the employees' files and the related correspondence. These files reveal a detailed view on the recruitment policy and the internal functioning of the Bank from 1892 to 1933, a period characterized by an extreme ethnic and religious diversity of its employees. Thus, these archives bring us a better understanding of the careers, but also the social, economic and cultural environment of these employees and their families, with a precision equivalent to a sociological survey. This paper focuses on the women staff, who began to work at the Bank in the 1910s, and tries to analyse the social and cultural specificities of this group until the 1930s. | |
